Hall History

The original hall was built in 1908 for a group known as Skiddaw Humane and Friendly Society. It was bought by Mr Hartley of Armathwaite Hall and given to the people of the parish.

The hall was well used, and long-standing residents have nostalgic and happy memories of over-subscribed dances and other events. Some building alterations were made over the years such as adding a kitchen and basic sanitation, but by 2015 the hall no longer met current expectations, building standards and other regulations and was becoming increasingly expensive to run and maintain. A Big Lottery Fund Bid was made, and Bassenthwaite Parish Room was rebuilt to provide a modern facility to meet the requirements of the community into the future. The new Parish Room had its Grand Opening on Saturday 14th October 2017 ending with a ceilidh provided by Travelling Light Ceilidh Band and beverages served from the Parish Room’s own Bassenthwaite Baaaah.
